An ode to the two great commandments mentioned in Matthew 22:37-39. It's important to recognize the order of these commands because if we don't love God first, we won't be able to love people as we are called to. Not to mention, we love God because He first loved us (refer to 1 John 4:19). God's love for us actually empowers us to love well, when we sit in His love it naturally overflows out of us to others. As always rely on Jesus, not yourself, praying that He would reveal His everlasting love towards you. Furthermore, if we continue to verse 40 of Matthew 22 we can see that the entire law is actually fulfilled in these two commands. If we don't have love, we are nothing (refer to 1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Love is patient, love is kind, love does not envy...see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 for more on love. This all makes sense when we consider God, Himself is love (refer to 1 John 4:8).
