Prayer is just a conversation with God. As any good conversation operates, you talk sometimes and listen sometimes, if it's only one sided, you've got a monologue but no dialogue. Jesus gives us an outline in Matthew 6:9-13 on how to pray (there are some great online resources on this). It’s not so much about using the exact words in the text but recognizing the structure of the Lord’s prayer. For example, Matthew 6:9 reveals that we should start our prayers off with praise and worship, honouring God for who He is. Also, prayer can happen anywhere but closet prayer (refer to Matthew 6:6) does have a purpose as it allows us to give God our full attention. It’s also important to be persistent in prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17), you have a direct line to God, so keep using it and don’t give up because God hears you (refer to 1 Peter 3:12).
